PPT2007: Reuse slides not keeping all formatting

I work for a church and we have recently upgraded to Office 2007. Our music
minister has a library of presentations (created in PPT2003) with the lyrics
to our worship songs. When he puts together the master presentation for a
service, he just inserts the slides from each presentation needed. Now, with
PPT2007, we're running into a problem. When he inserts slides from another
presentation, even WITH "Keep source formatting" checked, most of the font
information is lost. All BOLD and ITALIC information disappears and all text
is changed to Times New Roman instead of a mix of TNR and Arial. Font COLOR
and paragraph ALIGNMENT are kept, everything else disappears. I experience
the exact same problem when doing this on my machine, so it is not local to
his PC.

Any ideas?

I have had this happen. I would love to have a copy of your two
presentations so I can repro it here and write up a bug report. You can
email them to me at echos at indy dot net if you wish. Please include the
text of these posts so I can remember what I'm supposed to be doing with
them!

That said, try opening the file, copying the slides, and pasting into the
target presentation. Then you can click the paste options button that
appears and choose "keep source formatting." I know it's not as elegant as
Reuse Slides, but hey, if it works....

I'll send you a sample of the old presentations. I figured out a
workaround--by starting with one of the existing presentations and adding to
it rather than starting a new presentation, all formatting information is
kept when reusing slides. I figure it must have something to do with the
change in master format information storage from 2003 to 2007. In any case,
we have a workable solution; but, it's counter-intuitive that "Keep source
formatting" does not work as expected. I'll forward you the presentations
next week.

Thanks, Barry! If you have repro steps (open new blank presentation, click
New Slide | Reuse Slides, select slides and choose "keep source
formatting"), that make the issue happen for you, those would be very
helpful, too.

I also believe it's got something to do with moving between 2003 and 2007.

Barry, I also work for a church and have experienced the same problem by
importing slides from a CD of worship songs in PPT 2007. I did not have this
problem in PPT 2003. Did you find a solution?
