PPT2008 opening PPT2004 files

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

When I open a PPT 2004 file in PPT 2008, all but the first slide open as blanks. I have created and opened the file successfully on my MacBook but when I transfer it to my iBook laptop which has the 2008 PPT, it doesn't pick up the slides. The file size was 46MB so I divided it into two smaller files, but they still don't open correctly. I have tried a thumbdrive, email and my school server as ways to transfer the file but again no success.

To recover images in ppt 2008: Save the images from ppt2004 as a file (ctl click mouse on ppt2004 image - save as file) and insert them as file in ppt2008. This is extremely tedious. Hope that Microsoft has a fix!

Hi Cathy -

I don't think the problem has anything to do with Office 2008 or any kind of
"compatibility" issue.

Apple's iBooks never shipped with more than 512MB RAM, 256MB of which is the
minimum requirement for running Tiger (10.4). Since Office 2008 has a min
req of 512MB beyond that I think your trusty iBook just doesn't have the
horsepower to fully open the file ‹ even with it cut in half ‹ Unless you've
beefed up the RAM. Even so, iBooks maxed out at 1.5GB which still may not be
enough depending on whether you have any other processes running in addition
to PPt when you attempt to open the file.
