PPTX presentation with PDF images crashes if saved as PPT

Saving a slideshow in both old and new formats just in case. Using PDF graphs inserted as images. Saves as PPTX just fine but has crashed five successive times when saved as PPT. Any PDF at all inserted seems to kill the program.

I won't insert graphs in a non-vector format. It just plain looks unprofessional to use blurry, pixelated graphics for a scientific presentation.

Researching the reports here & elsewhere will disclose that this is a known
issue introduced by the 12.1.2 update and that there is no fix as yet. If
you can save the file in .pptx rather than .ppt there is no problem - it's
only saving as 97-2004 which causes the crash.

I get many, many crashes when saving to PPT 2004, and I don't have a single PDF file in ANY of them. I do have a bunch of GIF and PNG files. WMF seems to cause crashes as well.

And working in PPTX doesn't always help. Sometimes the pictures that are causing the crash get wiped out (along with all the text on that slide).

Hi,

Please be sure to send to Microsoft as much detail about the nature of
the WMF files that are causing the problem. Use the crash reporting
dialog box that appears when PowerPoint crashes.

Send in the report whenever it happens so that Microsoft can gauge the
frequency of the problem.

Thanks.
