PPv.X crashes on opening Intel MacBook

L

letterlink

Have just bought a MacBook and transferred everything via the Migration
Assistant from my PPC PowerBook.

All programs work seamlessly including Office v.X, EXCEPT PowerPoint
(10.1.9)!

I have tried all the suggestions on this Forum, including trashing
Prefs, fiddling with terminal and trying to reset possible conflicts
etc.

But, still am unable to open PP v.X. The program starts promisingly, I
see the Project Gallery (if I try starting from the program icon) or I
even see the document starting partially (if I try double-clicking a
document), but then always the program quits.

Any suggestions.

My set-up: OS 10.4.8 MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/2GB RAM.
PP v.X 10.1.9

Thanks
Peter

Hi,

Migration Assistant has worked fine for me.

It could be some sort of conflict with the test drive. Did you use the
uninstall utility to remove the test drive?

Maybe it would be just as easy to use the uninstall program in the test
drive to remove all of office and then install from the CD from scratch.
Don't just drag the Office folder to the trash. Use the uninstaller.

Jim!

Don't remember trashing the Test, but I sure don't have it now. Any
suggestions?

Then I would try uninstalling everything and re-install. Uninstall by using
the uninstaller from the Microsoft Office 2004 > Additional Tools > Remove
Office folder.

Jim,

Thank you for the direction... I'm in the same boat as Peter. Brandl
new MacBook Pro, 'cept I know that I tossed the test drive version o
Office 2004 into the Trash when it tried to assimilate me. Now, P
crashes on start up.

I'm off to find the install disk while dreaming about tossing a sledg
hammer into the big screen in the Assimilation Hall.

Hi,

Dragging the Test Drive folder to the trash then emptying the trash does not
uninstall the test drive. Some leftover files that are likely causing you
grief are still there.

You have to use the Remove Office utility.

Hi

I'm having the same problems. Before I remove Test Drive, can anyone
confirm that this is the solution? As I need ppt alot in the next
couple of weeks and am surviving using Test Drive.

Thanks

Unfortunately there aren't many guarantees, so responsible individual is
going to guarantee that the proper removal of Test Drive will resolve your
individual situation... There could be other variables involved.

What I *will* guarantee is that the situation will *not* get resolved as
long as the Test Drive and any version of Office continue to coexist.

After tossing just the 2004 folder, I took Jim's advice and used th
remove utility to remove only the 2004 Test Drive files. When tha
didn't work, I used the uninstaller utility to remove ALL versions o
Office on my comp (being CAREFUL not to remove files that I ha
created). Once ALL versions of Office were removed, I then reinstalle
"X". And, once again, all is right with the world.

While I can't guarantee this will work for you, it solved my proble
(PPT crashed on start up with "2004 test drive" and Office X on th
same machine). I noticed that the new Intel Mac attempted to use 200
TD as the default apps when I opened the first Office document (doc
ppt, xls).

Dunno if one would avoid this problem if the first action taken afte
mirgrating files via fire wire on to a new Intel machine would be t
use the utility to remove 2004 TD (?). I can't help but wonder if
didn't inadvertently put down a preferences pathway into some infinit
loop or programing black hole... Mac couldn't find 2004 TD, can n
longer toss the bomb, and won't demand that we "reinstall Windows"..
so it just quits the program.

PPT works just fine now.

Hope this non-guarantee helps,

- Chri
