PPViewer 2007 wont open .ppt file from CD

still confused

Was given a slideshow from child's school. Its a CD with a .ppt file on it.
When I try to open the file I get an error message. All the error message
says is that PPViewer cannot open the file.

I had PPViewer 2003 installed initially, updated to 2007 when my first try
to open the file did not work. 2007 did not open the file either. I do not
have PowerPoint installed on my pc.... only powerpoint viewer. I went to
live chat with microsoft but they had no advice for me.

Please HELP. This is a very special CD and I would love to view it.
