Precache setup question

I have also posted to SMS site with no responses. Please help me.

According to website:

When users with a precached local installation source on their computers run
Setup from the network installation point, most of the activity takes place
on the local computer instead of over the network. Precaching also allows you
to coordinate the upgrade to the new version. You can distribute the local
installation source to groups of users over time and then schedule a
simultaneous installation throughout the organization without over-taxing the
network.

I know how to use SMS to create the local precache on clients, but AFTER
this is completed and I am ready to actually install the Office Suite, how do
I make the same network install (same install that created the local
precache) use the local precache instead of the network install location? I
know to change the Config.xml file for the local precache copies to remove
the cacheonly install, but when you rerun the setup for real (to actually
install the office) the Config.xml file exists where the Setup.exe resides on
the network installation point, How does the Setup.exe know to install from
the local precache and not re-use the network installation point to
repopulate the local cache for install?

After the precache install is completed using SMS 2003, how does the install
from the network installation point "know" there is an already existing local
cache to use instead of overwriting with a new copy from the network
installation point??
