Predecessor task date change

Kesari Suresh

Hi ,
How does a successor task date change at back end? What is the procedure for
that.
What does microsoft project do to make sure the successor tasks match the
predecressor task.
Can i replicate the same feature with a custom date field.
Example:i have a custom date1 field for a task which is a predecessor task
of another task. When i change the custom date1 field of predecessor task,
the successor task's custom date1 also should be changed.
Can any one help me in this regard.
Thanks a lot.
Kesari Suresh.

Hi Kesari ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

If you link 2 tasks, then the end date of the predecessor is the driver for
the start date of its succesor. That's what linkng is all about. You enter
the tasks, durations and predecessor links, and let Project do what it's
designed to do - calculate the dates for you. You should never enter dates
(other than the project start date), but let Project calculate the schedule
for you.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
