Prefix original message in replies

I assume this has been asked but could not find an appropriate question amongst the millions of matches:

Is there any way to prefix the original message included in a reply with '> ' or similar? I used this in the past to pull out the bits I want to reply to.

What do others use to call out bits of the original message for commenting upon?

You can use the Edit --> Auto Text Cleanup --> Increase Quoting feature
to do this. The "> " characters will appear for plain text only. HTML
messages will be indented.

Hope this helps!

Quoting styles are established at Entourage (menu) > Preferences >
Reply & Forward > Mail Attribution.

Note that the > character will only be used in plain text messages -
Entourage merely indents quoted text in an HTML message.

Thanks all. Looks like it is the use of HTML that is the problem.

I wonder. Anyone got a script that will take selected text, copy it, then paste it just above the sig delimiter with quotes around? Time for me ot learn something about scripting methinks - are there any tutorials around?

Entourage does that for you.

If they want to stick with HTML, you'll most likely end up quoting your
reply on top with everything below.

If you receive an HTML message and want to reply within the message, simply
click on the ab/ab button to switch from HTML to plain text. Select
(highlight) the parts you want to quote back and hit reply. The quoted text
will automatically be quoted.
