preparing to install messages

I’ve just tried out a one month upgrade from MS Office XP for students and
teachers to Office Professional 2003 to see what the upgrade offered. I then
removed it by System Restore. Then I found the old suit didn’t work properly.
All other attempts at System Restoring failed too. I’ve now reinstalled the
2003 suit in order to make the computer usable. But I constantly get the
following pop-up window appearing - Windows Installer (Preparing to install).
When I try to do anything with the ‘students and teachers’ I get the same
plus the message: ‘This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the
patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application
vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.’ What
can I do?
