Preparing to install when opening help

Because of some computer issues ms office 2000 has been reinstalled on my
computer. Now when I open help in excel or word the preparing to install
screen displays for a couple of second and the answer wizard and index pages
are blank and unacceptable. So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled
(several times), recreated my profile, adjusted the registry on msohelpawdlg
and msokeydlg (article 319956) and added the userdata key (article 274473) to
noavail. Any idea what else I can do? I can get around it by opening the
assitant and installing the "missing" files then it works but does not stay
working.

thanks for the info that didn't help the article (265194) is for when the
preparing window displays when you start the program. The problem is
slightly different. The program starts fine the problems is when I go to the
help screens and access the index or answer wizard pages. The contents page
is fine.
