Ok, i am using Outlook 2007. I can receive any email with any attachment of
any size, so it seems. I am using roadrunner for an email provider. I can
send attachments from the roadrunner web server just fine but on my Outlook
2007 it sits in my outloook stating preparing to send/receive. Any ideas?

i deleted it and resent it, that didnt work.
i tried to send other attachment emails and it didnt work either.

HELP! i live and die by my email for work and school.

Thanks,
Garrett

The most frequent cause of this is having an antovirus scanner integrated
with email. The first thing to do is to completely uninstall your AV
program and reinstall it without any email integration. You are still just
as protected.

Brian,
Would you mind expanding a bit on your comment below about installing
antivirus software without the outlook integration and how you are just as
protected. Are you saying that the AV software on your desktop will still
scan the incomming and outgoing email?
Thanks
Pat

Let's start with outgoing mail first. In order for a scan to detect
mailware in an outgoing message, the mailware would already have to be on
your hard drive. If it were there, however, and your scanner was able to
detect it, it already would have detected it. Ergo, it's pointless to scan
outgoing mail.

For incoming mail, the data is stored in the message store. This store
isn't in a form that can cause mailware to execute, so malware attached to
amessage you've received cannot infect your PC. When when you attempt to
open the malware, however, Outlook (or any mail client) must first extract
the data to a file on the hard drive in order to open it. As soon as it
hits your hard drive, your AV program's on-access scanner will catch it.
Ergo, you don't have to scan incoming mail, either.

However, you could remain virus-free with just a few simple steps even
without an AV program (from an email perspective - this doesn't address
web-based malware). First, view messages in the Reading Pane. Unless
you've deliberately altered the Reading Pane's behavior, it will not run
code within a message. If you receive a message with an attachment, unless
you explicitly requested the attachment, delete the message without opening
it. If you did request the attachment, without opening the message, save
the attachment to your hard drive. Your on-access scanner will scan it and
determine if it contains known malware.
