Presentation crashes in PPT 04 but not PPT X

I have a presentation for a client that I did a few months back. I had
created it in the PPT version of Office X. I have countless other
presentations that I have successfully opened and worked on with PPT for
Office 2004 since it came out and this is the first time that I encounter
the following problem:

When I try to open that presentation, PPT crashes towards the end of opening
the file. However, if I try to open the file in either PPT for Office X or
PPT for Office XP on VPC, it works fine. I've tried saving it as, deleting
all charts and graphs, etc., to no avail. There is something in that
presentation that crashes it in the 04 version.

I've repaired the permissions and deleted the plists along with all of the
MS folder in preferences.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

More info:

I am using OS X version 10.3.5 on a Dual 1.25GHz G4 with 2GB of RAM and
128Mb of VRAM.

Hi,

You could try splitting the presentation in half and see which half has
the problem slide. Then cut the bad half in half again. Use a process of
elimination to locate the bad slide.

If you think it's probably a slide that's near the end, then start
cutting a few slides off the end until you find the bad one.

Thanks for the quick reply.

After carefully reading prior posts, I decided to test whether the crash had
anything to do with fonts.

I activated all the fonts in my set and, to my amazement, it did the trick.

I still don't know what happened since I have not deactivated any font in
the past few months and nothing, from a font installation or (de)activation
perspective, has occurred.

At any rate, I am now able to work again on the presentation so I'm happy
about it.

This was the first major problem that I've encountered with Office 04
(except of course for the fact that general fonts haven't looked too good on
it, but then again, they didn't look great in Office X either).

Hi,

Glad you followed your intuition! It's amazing how often that works.

In regard to the way fonts look on screen, you might try various
settings in the Font Smoothing section of the "General" system panel.
Some options may be more pleasing to your eye than the current setting.
