Presentation on thumb drive

Hi

One of the places where I will give a PPT presentation requires you to not
use your own laptop.

I recall hearing that if you transport your presentation on a thumb flash
drive it is important to embed the fonts used because if they happen to not
be available on the site's computer the slides may look weird. Are there
any other precautions when using a PPT presentation on portable media
instead directly on your laptop?

Is there a problem if the PowerPoint version on the site's PC is a different
one than mine which is PowerPoint 2002 (XP)?

Thanks.

Probably not. You could always take along and use the PowerPoint viewer if your not sure.

Hi

Just in addition to Michael's reply, do you have any sound or video in the
ppt? If so be aware it probably needs to travel with the presentation (post
back for more details if you do). And I would always save the presentation
to the local computer rather than running it directly from the flash drive.
But maybe that's just me :)

I do not have sound or video in the ppt. But I know from previous
experience that if the fonts I chose do not happen to be installed on the
conference computer then the host PowerPoint will substitute for them which
can result in reformating and changes in the projected image. I believe I
can avoid that problem by embedding the fonts when I save to be safe.

http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00559.htm seems to voice some of my concerns.

I also worry about ppt presentations prepared on a later version of PPT not
working in older versions (?), or what would happen if one used addins like
"Liveweb" which are not installed in the projecting PC, etc.

I was therefore wondering what the "pros" do.

Thank you. That is helpful to know.

So long as the fonts are embeddable, yes.

That's mostly a concern if you produce presentations in 2007 then
have to go backwards. Earlier versions, from 97 to 2003, share the
same format, though each new version introduces new features.
Animations from 2002 on won't work the same in 2000 and previous.
Multiple masters tend to work well when played back in 2000 but don't
plan on editing them there.

LiveWeb would need to be installed in order for it to do its stuff.
If you can't install it on the playback machine, it'd be best not to
depend o it.
