This sounds serious. <G> Maybe we should start with some details on the
system:
1. Version of Windows?
Windows XP
2. Which versions of PowerPoint are currently installed?
Just PowerPoint 2003 (not the Beta)
3. If you have both PowerPoint 2002 and 2003, did you install 2002 first?
I haven't had 2002 since I started with the 2003 Beta 2-3 months ago. One presentation was created in PowerPoint 2002 for use with the '97 viewer (worked fine with PP2002 & PP2003, and both viewers) and the second presentation is a modified version of the 1st using PP2003-Beta and it worked with both PP2003 & the Viewer-2003.
4. Are you still testing with the Beta versions of PowerPoint 2003 and the
PowerPoint 2003 Viewer, or are you using the versions released to market?
This is important, because if you are using the Beta versions we probably
won't be able to help.
Released version
5. What message, if any, do you get from PowerPoint 97 Viewer, PowerPoint
2003 Viewer and PowerPoint 2003?
Powerpoint 97 Viewer- PowerPoint Viewer can't read C:\....\1FG.ppt
PowerPoint 2003 Viewer- Simply doesn't play the video's and just proceeds with the rest of presentation.
PowerPoint 2003- Works fine until it encounters a video to be played then pops up a message: MS Office PowerPoint has encountered a problem and needs to close... We are sorry for the inconvenience. (Send Error Report) (Don't Send) - I sent the report one time.
6. Does the presentation play okay on your system in PowerPoint 2002?
I no longer have PP2002 on the subject computer but it does play w/PowerPoint 2002 on another computer.
7. When testing on other systems, are you using the exact same files or a
copy of them? This is important in case you have a corrupt copy that you
are testing on your system.
Exact same files. I have it on a CD and can play from CD on 2-other computers, 1-Win98SE, one XP.
8. When you say that the old viewer can't even read the old presentation,
what happens when you try to open it in PowerPoint 97 Viewer?
It says: PowerPoint Viewer can't read C:\....\1FG.ppt
9. What versions of PowerPoint are you testing with on the other systems?
PowerPoint 2002
Thanks again for the help!
