Presenter tools & "Slide Show" ALWAYS starts at slide 1 :'-(

I just installed office 2008. I am working on a slide show and keep
looking at the presenter tools to see how the changes I am making
look. Each time I do that the entire presentation starts again at
slide 1 -- even when I click on the "slide show" to view it, it starts
at slide one -- I could be at slide 30 & I have to click through the
entire show to get to the slide just to preview it! Am I missing
something?

Also (and sorry if this has been covered, I did not see it) is there a
"previewer" in custom animations so I would not have to go through my
entire show each time?!

I have been using 2008 and even with those icons cannot get a show to start where I want or to have a show play without presentation tools. Any Guesses. Did they take out this feature???
