Preseving links when files are moved.

I have a Word document that has links to an xcell
spreadsheet. When I copy the Word file to a floppy the
links still refer to the hard drive where I originally
created the document. Isit possible for me to email the
document and spreadsheets to someone and have them beble
to open the work file without going in and manually
changing the source of all the links?

Hi Fargophil,

No, it's not. A LINK field requires an absolute path. There
are things you can do to make life a bit easier for the
recipient, however.

1. Make sure all tables are formatted in-line with the
text, so that Alt+F9 will display the field codes

2. Now you can use Find/Replace to change the path.

3. Or, you can put the path in a custom document property
and substitute a DocPropety field for the path. Now, it's
only necessary to change the path in this one place.

4. Even more transparent would be an AutoOpen macro that
checks the path where the document (and spreadsheet files)
have been stored and changes the path.
