Prevent Highlighting of Editable Fields in Protected Table

I have a protected document that has a few editable cells in a table. When I
open the file, those fields are highlighted. I know how to turn them off
after opening the file but how can I have highlighting be off automatically
when I open the document?

I'm using Word 2003 and I keep the file read only so I don't mistakenly save
over the blank one.

I'm guessing you're referring to the "Highlight the regions I can edit"
option in the Protect Document task pane? As far as I know, that option
cannot be turned off permanently.

I would save the document as a template - that way you are not going to
write over it when you create new documents from it. If you turn off the
form field shading before saving the template, it will remain off for new
forms you create from it.

I tried this but unfortunately it didn't work. I still have yellow boxes
with brown borders.

I see. He meant the shading of FORM FIELDS that can be toggled from the
forms toolbar.

Thanks for the clarification.
