Prevent importing picture progress bar from appearing

I have a form where pictures are loaded into a control based on the path stored in a text field.

It works fine, except that for .gif and .jpg files I see a dialogue window briefly appearing when navigating through records. It seems to say that the application is actually importing the picture.

Bitmaps apparently do not cause this.

Is there a way around this window appearing (different from changing all the pictures into bitmaps) ?
