Prevent outlook from flagging items as read on server

Hi all,

I'm trying to setup outlook to download messages from my pop3 account.
Everything is set up properly and I can download the new messages, but it
seems that in order for outlook to keep track of which messages it has
downloaded, it goes in marks messages read on the server. When I try and
download messages on a different computer, those message are no longer
downloaded. Furthermore, my webmail application (Horde) shows these messages
as being read/seen. Is there anyway to prevent outlook from tagging the
messages as read on the server when it downloads the messages?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Set your advanced e-mail account options to leave mail on the server.

outlook should not be marking messages read when they are downloaded - it
will mark them as downloaded, but not as read.

Thanks Diane for clearing that up for me. But I got a question: will this
marking as "downloaded" prevent the messages from being downloaded by outlook
on a different computer? Is it possible to tell Outlook to not mark messages
as downloaded at all?

It seems that my webmail application (Horde) uses the downloaded mark as
analogous to "read" mark.

The marks outlook uses are unique to each acct/computer (and stored in the
pst), so the other outlook's should be able to download it. It's possible
that horde handles it differently than other mail servers - I know I've
never had a problem downloading mail from multiple machines and reading it
online - the web client sees all mail as unread. I haven't used a Horde
server though.
