preventing breaks in an index

Steve R

I have created an index in the format below. Can I set
the document up in such a way that this "paragraph" will
not be interrupted by a page break? Thanks.

Unfortunately, there really isn't any way. You can format Index 1 as "Keep
with next" to make sure that there is at least one subentry following the
main entry, but you can't apply this formatting to Index 2 because you'd end
up with the entire index as an unbreakable block (there can, in fact, be
problems with formatting Index 1 this way unless you have subentries for
every entry). What I usually do is wait till editing is complete, then
unlink the index and tweak it by hand.

This is one of those issues that just really can't be effectively dealt with
until editing is complete. In fact, I usually don't bother to generate the
final index at all until editing is complete (though I may test it a time or
two to make sure that the result is what I expect).
