Unlike those that have bouncing dock icon problems, I just want the
icon to not change at all!
I use Entourage at work with Exchange. Unfortunately, I have
uncontrollable email-checking weakness. Whenever the envelope appears
on the entourage dock icon, I can't help switching over to Entourage to
see the email (which is usually irrelevant). This causes countless
unnecessary distractions throughout the day.
I know this is silly, but I would just prefer that the icon not change
at all when email arrives. Is there any way to do this? I did not see
anything in preferences.
Solutions I've considered:
* Setting the "check email" frequency to 30 minutes. However, Entourage
does not seem to respect this all the time...for example, after sending
email, it automatically checks for new email a minute later.
* Changing the dock icon image files, e.g. overwriting the "have email"
icon with the "don't have email" icon. However I couldn't find these
files; my guess is that icons are embedded somewhere else, perhaps in
the file Office/Support Files/Icon Data.
* Keeping Entourage closed. This doesn't work because I need to refer
to my calendar and email archives frequently.
* Hiding the dock. Unfortunately I keep the dock on the left, and
hiding it causes newly launched applications to position themselves
over the dock's former position.
Thanks for any help you can provide to my easily distracted mind!
