preventing word from doing something automaticly

Hello,

I do not know how you call it, and hence I cannot find how to turn it
off.

If I type the following in my word doc:

"1. some text and some more text" <CR>

it automaticly puts '2.' before the next line.

I do not always want that, and deleting the '2.' is a tedious thing.

Could there, please, please, please, be some switch somewhere to turn
this off? (I am working with the English version of word.)

This might help:
Tools > AutoCorrect options > AutoFormat as you type

Uncheck the box "Automatic numbered lists"

In general, switches like this are either under
Tools > Options
or
Tools > AutoCorrect options

(I have Word 2003.)
