Preview In Browser script errors w/IE Firefox ok

Newbie to FP - using FP02 on two computers with same results. Did a
reverse publish of a website (I did not create the site). When I open
the website in FP (offline - not Open Web) and choose "Preview in
Browser" I get script errors using Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0. If I
let FP Preview in Firefox 2.0 (my default Browser), I get a message
about saving Page Elements, I click OK, then it opens fine and I can
browse the website offline w/o errors.

Why do I get script errors in IE. Thanks!

You need to view the page via web server if they have any type of scripts on the pages.

Ok. But here is what I want to do ultimately so maybe there is a better
way. I did not design this website and we are switching web hosting
companies for it. Before we switch, we want to make sure we have a copy
of the website's files. So we contacted our current web hosting company
for a login. We opened FP02 and did a Reverse Publish to save the files
locally. We are now opening the website from that copy to make sure it
works before we upload it to our new hosting company (Network
Solutions). We then want to make a few minor changes to the site and
administer it ourselves from that point using FP 2002 or 2003.

Note: during the Reverse Publish, we were prompted about several .ASP
pages saving correctly. We clicked Ok/Continue and the reverse publish
completed. We used instructiions from this website to do this:
http://www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/fp_techniques/reverse-publish.htm

We get errors when "Preview in Browser" using Internet Explorer, but
not FireFox.

Do you know why or do you suggest another method for what we are trying
to do.? Thanks

I do not get any errors in Firefox, just Internet Explorer. But why?

The best anybody can do is guess what the problem might be. You provided no
information about the errors, or the scripts, that would be useful for
troubleshooting.

My car works, but my wife's doesn't. Why is that?

I would have just published the site from the current web host to the new web host directly from
within FP, as it really only matters if the site works on the new host, not on your local machine.

Ok..we were just trying to make sure we have the files in case the
transfer does not work or there are problems. We just did not want to
lose our website and we did not have a copy of the files until we
learned how to do a Reverse Publish. Also the current web host is not
very helpful and we were given conflicting information on who
should/could initiate the transfer.... The current webhost says the
new host can do it, and the new host says they cannot. Do you know how
this is typically handled and what precautions we should take so we do
not lose our website files? Thanks again.

....and you still haven't provided the information about the errors or
scripts for IE problem.

The script errors refer to a line# and "Object Expected" with a URL
location within the Temporary Internet Files folder.
There is a different line number each time.

Ok, then just publish a copy to your local HD, as backup, but then don't worry about test it,
because as long as you are able to open the site in FP on the live/remote server, and then publish
you should get all the content that is physically in the web site, however if you have a database,
you need to make sure that it is actually stored within the site.

If the new host says they cannot initiate a transfer, I would strongly
suggest you continue your search for a new host. They certainly should
be able to do so.
