Preview Label not working

Hello:
I have a shape's custom properties linked to a spreadsheet. I wish to view
on my drawing, one of the properties. This is what I've done:
-tools
-macros
-building plan
-label shape
When I select my property, which does have a value (I've checked the
shapesheet window and custom property box), and I check off the "display
property name", it does not show up on the preview pane.
Any ideas why? Alternatively, is there another way to insert linked text on
my drawing? I'm not a whiz at visio btw, so no low level code work arounds
please! :>

In reponse to my own question: I've got brackets in my property description.
When they are removed, everything works fine.
