Preview Pane Has Stopped Working! - Why?

I use Outlook 2003 and today the preview pane function just stopped working
today.

I right click and select Other Setting and preview pane is set to "Bottom."
I have set it to off and then back on again.
I have set it to "Right" and then "Bottom again.
I close Outlook and re-open it.
I have right clicked and selected "Customize Current View..." and then
"Reset Current View" and gone thru all of the above steps.

None of the above has worked. Any suggestions
