Preview Web Page

When I choose preview web page, I get an error: "This operation has been
canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your
system administrator."

I know the reason why I get this error, it is due to the "Run only allowed
windows applications" setting in group policy.
I have this policy enable to limit what students can do on the schools
computers.

What do I need to add to this list so that Publisher can preform this
function?
The Publisher exe and Internet Explorer exe are both already in the list.

Perhaps someone else will read this with a better answer for you, because I
don't know the answer. We have had a couple posts with people loosing the
ability to preview their Publisher webs, but it has been unclear if it is
caused by a Windows 7 setting, IE8 setting or perhaps a MSFT patch that
broke this functionality. I am hearing you say that none of these are the
reasons you are unable to preview the pages, correct?

I have read in another newsgroup that the error message can be a result of
user's installing Google Chrome and then uninstalling it. The only way they
were able to fix the problem was to reinstall Chrome. Do you perhaps have
Chrome or an alternative browser installed? If you have FireFox installed,
what happens if you set it as the default browser?

I assume that you also have Word installed. Can you do a File > web preview
with a Word document or is this specific to Publisher? If your computers
won't allow you to preview Word webs, then I would suggest you go to a Word
newsgroup/forum and ask your question there. There are some exceptionally
smart people in the Word groups (smarter than me anyway) that might know
what is stopping Word from previewing, and if so that should give you a
direction to follow for Publisher.

Hopefully someone else will read this message and have a better solution for
you. If not you might have the students use a different work flow at least
for the short term. If they Publish to the Web and direct their web files to
their local computers, such as their desktops, can they then right click >
open with > IE the .htm files? Or can they open IE and go to File > Open and
browse to the .htm files and open them and preview them that way? Don't
forget that the index.htm file is the home page and the other .htm files
contained in the index_files folder are the other pages of the site.

Sorry I can't be of more help...

If you must use an alternative work flow, I forgot to mention that you can
simply double click the .htm files and they should open in your default
browser...yes?
