Hi M.N.,
To add to Mike's reply - while the file formats have
not changed the feature sets and the positioning of
objects has changed since Office 97. If you know you
are going to have folks with Office 97 as part of your
target audience you may want to turn on the feature
in Tools=>Options=>Save for
[x] Disable features not available in Word97
One of the most common differences is the positioning
of graphics in newer versions and Word97. That setting
should keep folks from getting as many surprises

I have Office XP but need to create Word and Excel files for users with Office 97 & Office 2000. Will they have problems opening
the files? I don't have the previous versions to test with. Thanks. >>
