How much does microsoft office 2000 usually cost, just a standard edition
that contains MS Word, Excel, etc. I am not sure if it included powerpoint.

Office 2000 is "out of print". Can only buy used. Prices will be all
over the place. Office 2003 is the current version.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Thank you, that helps. I am trying to help a friend with her computer. Will
office 2003 work with Windows ME?

No, but Microsoft is still selling Office XP which is compatible with
Windows ME.

As to pricing, check Amazon.com. While their pricing may not always be the
best, you can get an idea of the price range for the various editions of
Office. Office comes in several editions which vary by the applications
included, license and price. If your friend qualifies as a student or
teacher, then the Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers is likely to
be the best price. Else, you need to purchase the full priced or upgrade
version. Office XP has a limited number of qualifying programs for the
upgrade version. If your friend only need Word, then the Works Suite {not
just Works} which contains Word would be the least cost.

The qualifying programs for Office 2003 Upgrade are greater than those for
Office XP Upgrade. You should check the programs that qualify for a Office
2003 Upgrade. If your friends computer meets the requirements for a Windows
XP Upgrade and has a qualifying program for an Office 2003 Upgrade, that
approach may be the lower cost.
