Print Area Gridlines Not Showing on Sheet

I have a weird issue where I set the print area but Excel 2008 does not show the print area gridline. For work I need to be able to use cells that are out of the print area to do tests on formulas (and things of that nature) but I am unable to see where the print area ends b/c the gridlines aren't showing. On other sheets they show perfectly which is why this is so strange and confusing. I have the same issue on Normal and Page Layout views. Someone help!!!

Also, I'm not sure if it's supposed to but the Page Layout view isn't showing the correct print area pages at all. For example, I have the print area for one page as be cells A-N but the Page Layout view shows the first page as A-S. Is this normal?

Have you set the Window to show page breaks (Preferences/View/Window
Options, check the Show page breaks checkbox)?

Do you have Fit to 1 page wide by 1 tall in File/Page Setup? With that
set, XL doesn't display page breaks.

Thanks! I had it set to fit to 1 page wide/tall. Why can you not see the grid when this is set? I like setting it to fit to one page but I also need to be able to work outside the print area (and see that I am in fact doing that). Is there no way to do this in Excel?

Why? Dunno - design decision somewhen. Send MacBU a suggestion at
Help/Send Feedback if you'd like it to be changed.

You can always type "Print_Area" (no quotes) in the Name box on the
Formula Bar to select and highlight the Print Area.

You could also consider setting a light shading to cells outside the
Print Area.
