Print both sides

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

My printer has a duplex option but the print dialogue boxes in word and excel do not have a 'print both sides' option.
By choosing 'Preview' the dialogue box does have a 'print both sides' option but it will only produce single copies.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix?
