Evgenia

Hi everybody,
I have a probltm with the print dialog box in Microsoft Word. It does not
appear, even if I do Ctrl + P. If I want to print, I use print icon on the
standard toolbar. But then I do not the options of changing the printer to
fax, or to PDF filecreator, or to choose which page to print, etc..
I tried to look in the Options. Can't find anything.
Please help.
Thank you,
Evgenia

There has been a plague of similar reports of menu items going
walkabout.
Try Tools»Customize Menus/Toolbars»Reset.

Also, the proper command to bring up the print dialogue is Cmd+P; Ctrl+P is
for Windows Office only.

Hello Evgenia,

Just to expand on Michel's reply:

The "Command" key is the key immediately to the left and right of the
spacebar, with two symbols on: an ornate cloverleaf and an apple. Some
people use the name "apple key" but Apple Computer has always used the name
"Command".

The Control key, of course, has "Control" on it.

This is all very confusing to people who have grown up in Windows, I know!

Cheers,

Hello -

In addition to getting used to the keystrokes, keep in mind that you can
also use the Menu Bar File>Print command, which brings up the Print dialog
box.

Hi Evgenia:

I suppose this might be a good time to mention that you posted your question
in a Macintosh-only community where we concentrate on Microsoft Word for the
Mac.

Since you did not mention your software versions in your question, we had to
take a guess. Had you provided those details in your question as we always
ask posters to do, a lot of people would not have wasted their time trying
to answer you.

Your answer is to look in the Word Help under Customise. There you will see
how to customise the keyboard. Word on Windows has two Print commands: one
displays the dialog, the other simply sends the document directly to the
default printer without any prompting.

The command you want is named "FilePrint" not "FilePrintDefault". Re-assign
Control + p to FilePrint and you will get the dialog each time.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your posts but I have Windows OS and all discussion about Apple
keys is not helping.

Thanks, but it seems like I was not clear about the problem. File>Print does
not bring up the dialog box. DOES NOT! Then I tried to use the keypad-no
result. Tried to look through the Options- nothing. Tried
Customize>Reset-nothing.
However, the print icon works. It does not give me all the options the print
dialog box does!
I also checked the other MS Office applications. Everything is fine there.
So it is in the other non-Office programs.

Thank you.

As has been pointed out by others, this is the newsgroup for the Mac
versions of Office applications. The best suggestion I can offer is to go to
Tools>Customize>Toolbars, click the *name* Menu Bar, then click Reset.

If that doesn't fix the problem (or if you have previously done *exactly*
that) go back to the same dialog box, but select the Commands tab rather
than the Toolbars tab. Open the File menu, drag the Print Command into the
window & let it go, then select the File category from the left-hand list in
the dialog box, locate the Print command in the right-hand list & drag it to
the appropriate location in the File Menu to replace the former one.

If that still doesn't correct the problem, post in the Windows Word
newsgroup for more assistance.

I did not notice that I was in this category. Do you how to get to the
Windows Office discussion group? Because I just searched NOT in the Macintosh
Office division and I ended up at this thread anyway!
Thanks for taking time.

Hi Evgenia:

When I said "FilePrint" I mean the "FilePrint" Word internal command, not
the File>Print menu. Sorry about that.

Go to Tools>Customise>Keyboard>All commands>... And there you will find
FilePrint. Assign it to Control + P.

Do the same with the File menu: Add the FilePrint command as "Print" on the
File menu.

Also: Check your Normal.dot and any add-ins or attached templates for
Macros. Corporations sometimes "intercept" the File>Print menu item and
command with a macro. If there is a macro anywhere in your templates named
"FilePrint()" without the quotes, that will intercept the FilePrint command
in Word and do whatever it is programmed to do.

You may also have got a nuisance virus that has intercepted the command.

If you are not sure how to look for macros, find and re-name your Normal.dot
template to Normal.old. Word must be closed when you do this.

Then create a new document and try File>Print again.

As to your question about how to get into the right group, sorry! Now you
know why we don't use that silly website :) Try (all on one line):
