hopefully I didn't miss any of theres answers in the discussion...

regarding section printing, if there are several pages involved, each
containing small amounts of information that for organizational purposes are
better kept apart, is there any way to "compress" the section such that the
printed version comes out somewhat coninuous, rather than one paragraph per
printed sheet resulting in lots of wasted paper?

You would need to copy each page temporarily into a single section/page
then print that temporary section/page.
