Print issues

I have a dell inspiron 4000 and am printing to an HP
deskjet 932C - I am working with Microsoft Excel 2000. I
have a one page spreadsheet that I can't print. It used
to print, now I cannot seem to print any text - all that
is printing is these wacky symbols (i.e. hearts, diamonds,
question marks, etc.) Sometimes as many as 10 pages of a
few lines of symbols prints and while it is doing this,
the mouse does not function properly - it locks up.

That is usually a printer issue, I have never heard excel has anything to do
with it.
Can you print other documents? Here's straight from HP support

Step one: Turn the printer on and off

Step two: Turn off the printer and reboot the PC

Step three: Close all open programs

Step four: Try printing from different software

Step five: Check the printer cable

Step six: Print a test page

Step seven: Set your printer as the default printer

Step eight: Print a test page from the Properties menu

Step nine: Verify you have enough free disk space

Step ten: Disconnect other peripheral devices

Step eleven: Reinstall the driver

Step twelve: Test with a different cable

Step thirteen: Test from a different computer (if possible)

Step fourteen: Reinstall the printer port

Step fifteen: Contact support
