Print job disappears from queu and Word closes automatically

When printing from Word XP, the print job appears in the printer's queue, but
then disappears without printing. At the same time Word disappears without
any message.

Printing works OK from other programs, just not word.

As you can see from my original post, I must be using the correct printer
because it does appear in the printer queue.
I set the queue to pause and print from Word. The job appears in the queue
but Word dispappears from the PC. I then unpause the queue and the job
disappears without printing.
The correct driver is in the printer settings. It prints correctly from a
3rd party program. I haven't tried from another MS program, but I will test
from Excel when I get the time.
