print publication opens as web publication

I have created a print publication in Publisher 2003, but saved it as a
Publisher 2000 file. When I open the file, it automatically converts to a web
publication, causing the lay-out to go all wrong. I convert it back to a
print publication, correct the lay-out and save it. When I open the file, it
will again convert to a web publication. Why does this happen? I have made
dozens of publications this way, but this is the first time I have this
problem.
Thanks for your help!

Was this publication ever saved as a print document? Was it converted to a web
page before it was saved the first time out?

Maybe you can copy/paste to a new publication.

The file was never converted to a web publication on purpose, I only use
print publications. But when I opened the file, it had suddenly become a web
publication.

I have already tried the copy/paste-trick: I copied/pasted the bits and
pieces to a new print publication, then saved it as a Publisher 2000 file.
But the same thing happenend!

When I save a file, I cannot choose between print file or web file, just
"Publisher files", "Publisher 2000 files", "Publisher 98 files" etc. I am
guessing that there is some kind of code in the file that makes Publisher
think it is a web publication, but I have no idea where I should look...

I cannot find any help for you. I was unable to replicate this. Are you pasting
from 2003 to 2000? Can you re-create the Publication in 2000?
You could have a damaged image, corrupt pictures can be troublesome. Open the
Design Checker, see if you can isolate a problem.
Because Publisher 2000 doesn't use file compression it creates large files, much
larger than 2003. WordArt in 2003 is not compatible with the WordArt in 2000.

I suspect by copy/paste, you are copying HTML code rather than plain text.

I will keep looking for a solution.

I am writing in Publisher 2003 and I am saving the files as Publisher 2000
files. This because the company I am writing for does not have the latest
version. I have been doing this for a couple of years, and never had any
problems.

I have checked the design and the images in the publication, there are no
problems there. All images in the publication are saved as .jpg files in a
separate folder, all images in the publication are listed as embedded. I have
replaced all the images in the publication, but the problem still remains.

But when I save the file as a Publisher 2003 file instead of a Publisher
2000 file, it opens as a print publication again. So the problem only exists
when I convert to Publisher 2000. BTW, there is no WordArt in the
publication, just a tables and the jpg-images.

Thanks for trying!

When you copy the 2000 document, what are your choices when you click "paste
special?"

That depends on waht I copy & paste: for text I can choose between text
without layout, new table, new text box, text with layout. (I don;t know if
these terms are correct, I am using the Dutch language version). For images I
can choose between image (Windows Meta File), Publisher object, GIF, PNG,
JPG/JFIF, image (enhanced meta file), bitmap.

When I copied the bits and pieces of the Publisher 2000 file to a new
publication, I did not know what to choose so I just used copy & simple
paste. But the thing is: every new publication I start is a Publisher 2003
file. I can save a Publisher 2003 print publication and open it again as a
print publication. As soon as I save the file as a Publisher 2000 file. it
will convert to a web publication as soon as I open it.
