print range setting not working in some Word Documents

We have several documents in Word (2007) where the print range settings do
not work: an empty print spool file is sent. In other documents the print
range setting works fine.

- specifying a page range does not work, printing all pages or current page
or selection works fine
- there is only 1 section, so it's not a section problem, specifying section
anyway (p14s1-p20s1) in page range does not help
- when I copy the contents to a new document, the problem remains
- when I copy the contents to a new document as unformatted text, the
problem is gone (but I do not want to remove all formatting)
- page range does not work printing to any printer, not even PDFCreator or
Microsoft XPS Document Writer
- I can see a print spool file spooling but it contains no pages so doesn't
actually print anything (1 blank page in XPS)

any help in solving this mystery would be greatly appreciated,

in reply to my own post:

have stripped everything out of this document, leaving a blank document of
34kb (standard 24kb for blank Word doc): still not able to use print range

have file to test if you want,
replicate: choose your printer, Pause printing and test printing w & w/o
page range in Pages box --> spooler will show number of pages for correctly
printed docs w/o Page Range, will show N/A for those printed w Page Range
(even if simply 1)

hopefully awaiting

Did you ever get help? I have a document that totaly ignores my print range
request.

This might be document corruption. If the fix suggested by Tom D works, then
I'd say it's definitely a case of document corruption. If you worry about
having to reformat the document, try copying the contents except for the
final paragraph mark into a new document; that way, paragraph formatting is
preserved, and it usually clears the corruption (which is often stored in
the final paragraph mark).

No other help then what you see here. I believe what Stefan wrote to be
correct, it has to be some document corruption. As Stefan suggests you can
copy everything excluding the final paragraph mark and copy this into a new
document. This keeps formatting and solved the print range issue, at least for
my documents.
