Print selection

Hi,

When trying to print a specific section in a word document, I hi-light it, click print and then choose "Selection" from the "Copies & Pages" settings. Once I click that option, Word becomes non-responsive (I get the beach ball) for several minutes and I have to force quit. The whole time it looks like Word is trying to update the "preview" of my print job.

Has anyone seen this same behavior? I was trying to submit a bug, but didn't see an option to do so.

What version of Word? What OS version? What printer?

There might have been a similar report before.

Help | Send Feedback in Word will let you notify MS of all sorts of
things, including bugs, but best to check here first or in addition to
see about workarounds, etc. MS can't do a single thing about a bug
report, especially for printing, that doesn't include the information I
just asked about, though.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a Macbook with an HP printer, (the one you get for free from Apple when purchasing a Macbook), and I have Leopard, Word for Mac 2004. I was wondering how to print a highlighted selection?

The "how" --you select some text, then use File | Print. In the Print
dialog, click the radio button for "selection."

Mebbert said Word crashes when ze tries it. Is the same thing happening
to you, Danny, or did you just want to know how?

Sorry, I thought I had included the versions...

I am using Office 2008, Leopard 10.5.2, and I was trying to print to an HP 4050n. I haven't checked for similar behavior on 2004.

I followed the instructions for testing preferences, and Word still hung.

One other thing I noticed that I think is odd, is that after I force quit Word, my mac tries to access my dvd drive (just like when you first turn on your computer). I'm using a MacBook Pro.

Whoops, turned out I was wrong about someone else having this problem.
Theirs was different.

Um, I'm kinda out of ideas--you could try testing the Normal template:
http://word.mvps.org/mac/MacWordNormal.html

You looked for older preferences as well as just the Word 2008 ones, right?

No clue about the DVD access issue.

You could try the diagnostic tricks to help locate the cause of the problem:

1) Log out of your user account, then hold down shift while logging back
in. If the problem disappears, it is probably due to some conflict with
the login items/utilities in your user account.

2) create a new user account in OS X and test in that one. If the
problem disappears, then the installation is fine but some user-specific
file has corrupted.
