Print Setup Problems

With all of the answers to so many inane posts in this forum - more than ten months have passed since users asked when the MS Excel bug preventing print settings for individual spreadsheets in a XLSX-version workbook from being saved. MS related that the bug is present. I've asked this question at least three times before:

WHEN IS THIS BUG GOING TO BE FIXED?

If MS isn't going to fix the bug - can I have my money back?

I've asked this question at least three times before:

Hmm... I only find one other post from "(e-mail address removed)" in the
archives asking a question (back in November). There are actually two
posts - the second a mere 42 minutes after the first one, complaining
that nobody had replied to your first post.

That, of course, was an "inanely" short time to expect a reply, and may
have led to your being ignored. Or perhaps it was just your general
tone...

Of course, you certainly could have posted under a different pseudonym.

It's also a bit hard to tell from your latest post whether you're asking
a separate question from the original one you referenced, but
regardless, the original bug has not been fixed.

However, this is a newsgroup for *users*. None of us *users* here know
when, if ever, any particular bug will be fixed. Anyone who might know
would be under a non-disclosure agreement. Anyone who claims to know,
doesn't.

Based on previous updates and corporate policy, even if one of the MS
employees that occasionally post here replies, he or she won't be able
to tell you when any particular bug will be fixed, unless the fix is
ready to release. That's generally the case with ANY software
manufacturer.

FWIW, the sad truth is that many (if not most) bugs, regardless of
manufacturer, NEVER get fixed, at least not until the next full version.
OTOH, I'd think that if there were enough complaints via
Help/Feedback... it may move higher in the queue.

And, yes, of course there are ways to get one's money back. Take it back
to where you got it. Or take a look here:

And, the first post I wrote contains a link. The linked posted contains a Post by Matt Aton of the Mac BU in April 08 - read it for yourself.

About taking it back - the purchase was directly from Microsoft as an upgrade. I still haven't received my rebate either, to add a little more frustration on my end. The second post, within a few minutes, was mine - since the posts within this forum are ported out to dozens of feed clients - that using the .xls compatibility format works as expected

My three calls to your company were never returned. Two direct emails were not returned. The fix to the bug isn't coming...

I tried returning the product to MS - I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. As the president and CEO of my company buying MS software since 1991, I won't be authorizing any more purchases of MS products anytime soon.

Yeah, I did - which I indicated in my reply...

You STILL don't get it. You NEVER called my company. If you had, I'd
probably have answered the phone. And if you emailed my company, it
ended up in the spam bucket.

Almost nobody who posts to these newsgroups is a Microsoft Employee (or
contractor, for that matter).

The vast majority of us who post answers to questions are users who are
trying to help other users. That's all I am - a user.

Newsgroups are a lousy way to try to reach MS - that's not what they're
designed for, though occasionally a MacBUer does drop in.

Try the official channels again - and yes, they're a PITA, as is almost
guaranteed with a huge company. You might also try calling your regional
MS office - they are *sometimes* easier to get to someone who cares.

Doesn't bother me a bit - I am completely indifferent as to whether you
ever buy another MS product. FWIW, I happen to be the CEO of my company,
and I also make software purchasing decisions.

Do whatever you think best - OpenOffice.org is getting better - along
with NeoOffice. I also use iWork's Numbers, and at various times have
used MarinerCalc. Google Spreadsheet is working out OK for one of my
clients.

Gnumeric is hands-down the best alternative I've found, and like
OpenOffice.org, it's free, but it's a bit harder to support for novices.
