let me know please if this is possible -install on PC a driver for a
printer that is attached to a Mac and print to .prn file for it
; then take the file and either use some command line command(which?)
or from file menu print to a printer (probably has to be on the same
port as the printer installed on PC?)

You could do - use lp on the Mac - but there's a more sensible way.

Print to PDF (using eg <URL:http://www.cutepdf.com/>) on the PC, and then
print the PDF from the Mac.

Preview will convert a PostScript file to PDF on the fly for you to
print. If the .prn doesn't work, change the extension to .ps.

Just type "lp " (NB extra space), drag in the file from the Finder and then
press return.

It may only work if you've got printing set up from the Unix side.

You don't need Acrobat installed to use Preview.

By the way the computer's a "Mac"; a "MAC" is something else :)

You didn't say you were still using 9.2, which is a pity because that
changes the answers a lot! Forget about using lp from the command line for
starters, and forget about Preview, as those aren't things you can do from
OS 9.

The most free solution for you is to print to PDF on the PC using one of the
free PDF printer drivers available on Windows, and then print the PDF using
the free Acrobat Reader on the Mac.

Chris

....suppose there is no Acrobat installed!
(perhaps I can view and possibly print the PDF if I first upload it
to some place like yahoo briefcase? or is there an analog to WIN
'reboot to DOS' type of thing on Mac?)

Then, unless you can install the free version of Acrobat, you are screwed.

No.
