print using acrobat distiller

Sajit

I was creating PDF files of Access reports. I use Access 2003 and Acrobat
distiller 5 and 6. Of late the Distiller is reporting an error without
creating the PDF file.

Sajit:

You don't say what the error is; it could be a font, layout command, many
things. Try the following for the Distiller / Adobe PDF printer settings:

If you report has lots of images or unique fonts, you may want to make a
modest change in the way that the Distiller / Adobe PDF printer manages its
post script creation. Open the printer printers properties from the
printers folder. On the Advanced tab, choose the button "Printing
Defaults". Once the print settings dialog appears, choose either the paper
or layout tab and then again, click the Advanced button. In the properties
shown there, you will note that under PostScript options, that the Post
Script Output Options are set to "Optimize for Speed". Try setting this to
"Optimize for portability".

If you'd like to automate output of your PDF files using these printers,
take a look at our PDF and Mail Library for Access

Thank you SA for your help,

I did try your suggestion by placing the "Optimize for portability" setting
in the Dstiller printer properties. But I am still getting the same error
message.

The error log message is a long one, I am copying a parts of it here.

Sajit:

There could be many issues which cause a postscript production error. If
changing the setting I suggested didn't do it, then

1.) Look at the images on your report, try deleting any that are there and
see if that resolves the issue.
2.) Look at fonts; try to use very standard fonts like Times Roman or Arial.

It was printing the report through Acrobat distiller 5, until it stopped for
what ever reason. I don't think I have made any changes to the format of the
report. I checked the fonts they are Ariel. The header contains an excel
sheet for the title block. It was all there before too.

I did the trick for me also... I changed the report design so there was no
vertical text anymore and it worked.
I'm using Acrobat 7.08, so this verion should be able to handle vertical
text. But mine didn't...

Anyone has an explanation for this?

Thanks, Bart

Sajit said:
That must be it. I am using rotated text. I shall try without it,

Thanks, Peter.

Peter Martin said:
You're using vertical text in the report or form. Adobe (thru 7.02) doesn't
like it.
If you find out how to make it work, let me know please. Otherwise, delete
the vertical text or convert it to an image and paste it over the same spot.

Best Regards

FOUND THE SOLUTION TO CREATING PDFS WITH ROTATED TEXT!
use Stephen Lebans A2000SnapshotToPDFver751.mdb (lebans.com) It works
where Adobe doesn't, and produces very small PDF's - i.e. not just page
images but real selectable text. Adobe pro hardly shrank them at all, even
with images.

Once again, thank you Stephen!
