Printer has not yet responded....

Whenever I open MS Word I get a pop up box which says: "The printer
has not yet responded, but the MS Office program may be able to
proceed without printer information." I am on XP Pro & Word 2002 and
use a shared printer on another networked PC. How do I eliminate this
printer checking and this message? Thanks

Hi Stew,

In Word check to see that an available printer driver
is selected in File=>Print. Word relies on the printer
information for presenting the document correctly on
your screen.

Trying all the above didn't work unfortunately, but this did for m
networked HP printer:

- Install the printer driver on the affected PC
- Printers and Faxes > Add Printer
- Select Local Printer, but untick 'Automatically detect and instal
my Plug and Play printer', click Next
- Select Create a new port and select 'Standard TCP/IP Port', clic
Next and Next
- Enter the IP address of your printer, click Next, click Finish
- Click 'Have Disk', navigate to where you installed the printe
driver and select the INF file, click Open, click OK
- If you're prompted to overwrite the existing driver, do so
- The rest of the prompts may differ from printer to printer bu
should be self-explanatory; the printer then installs
- Microsoft Word 2003 now correctly sees the printer

This worked for me; see if this helps everyone!
I use a network printer, and am not always connected to the network. I
that case, Word tries to detect the default printer and pops thi
message when it cannot.

Solution - simply set a printer program like Microsoft Office Documen
Image Writer as your default printer. Voila! No more messages
