Printer isn't recognized

In all my office programs (2000 and 2003). My printer isn't recognized. I
recently got a new printer but this new doesn't seem to want to cooperate,
the old one did though. I am on a shared computer and the printer is on
another computer. The printer is a Canon Pixma ip3000. To allow me to use the
printer I just right-clicked and clicked on sharing on the computer with the
printer installed and found it on my computer by using the add printer wizard.

I've needed to go through Start - Settings - Printers and Faxes - Add
Printer to get the Canon Pixma series to install correctly for accessing
across a network. I never had a problem with accdssing my HP printers in the
way you're trying, but Canon seems to want a formal introduction, so to
speak.
