Printer issues with new printer

I am in an XP windows environment operating Office 97 and just installed a
new printer to this system, an HP LaserJet 1160. Now when I try to print
from the File/Print function, Word spools and shuts down. It doesn't seem to
matter what printer I opt to use. Did something in the install of the new HP
cause a corruption in my Word program? Does anyone have any suggestions for
repair? This is not a good situation for me to be in right now as I need to
be able to print portions of documents, individual pages or multiple copies
and cannot. Thanks for your help.
