Hello!
I am having problems with HP 4000 PS drivers installed on a NT 4.0
server which is connected to NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP
workstations.
We have a lot of word templates linked to "A4" and "A4 small" forms in
the document properties, to be able to automatickly direkt the print
to Blank or preprinted paper. "A4" or "A4 small" is linked to correct
draver in the drivers.
In newer printers seem to have changed the management of the dravers
by type of paper and not the paper size. Sadly we have a lot of those
old HP Laserjet 5 which do not support this method, so i have to stick
to the "A4 Small" form.
For our newest HP 4XXX printers the only drivers that can be
customized with "A4 small" is the HP 4000 PS driver. Sadly we are
having problems with this:
In the production enviroment the drivers now works on NT 4.0 clients,
but if we log on with windows 2000/XP and connect to the printer the
draver settings are not set in properties for the printer.
If i customize the printer correctly in XP (administrator), the
settings are lost for the NT 4.0 server and for all NT 4.0 clients.
It seems for me that the settings in registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers
.....is getting quite different if i customize correctly for XP and
then customize for NT 4.0.
Previously i have had some simular cases which i "resolved" by
installing a different kind of driver. In those cases the properties
on the NT 4.0 server got different form the NT 4.0 clients (no XP or
2000 here!). If you changes the settings on the server; got wrong on
clients and vica versa........
In this case, i am a little more stuck in the choice of drivers.
Anybody having a clue of what is going on?
