Greetings,
Printing from Word 2K3 in WinXP to an HP 8100N with optional 4th/5th
tray extension.
The users are having issues with documents not printing to the default
tray in some circumstances.
Description:
1. The user starts a session of Word, creates a document, clicks the
Print icon on the toolbar, the document prints from the default tray (5)
as desired.
2. Without closing the current session, the user creates a new document,
uses the File | Print menu to select a different tray and a different
paper type (corresponding to the paper type configured for that
particular tray on the printer), and the document prints properly from
the selected tray.
3. Without closing the current session, the user creates a third
document, or opens a previously saved document, clicks the Print button
on the toolbar, and instead of drawing from the default tray (5), the
new document prints from the settings the user previously selected in
the File | Print dialog.
It appears that the session initially defaults to the desired default
print tray selection, but if the user changes the desired tray via the
File | Print dialog, *all subsequent documents*, within that session,
will print from the most recently selected tray, regardless of the defaults.
Evidently, the users would like the tray selection to be embedded in the
*document*, and to print based on the tray setting specified in the Page
Setup dialog, *regardless* of how many documents they have open within
the current session. In addition, the users desire to have new, unsaved
documents, print from the default tray, regardless of File | Print
options previously selected for other documents within the current session.
I presume there is some combination of settings between Word and the
printer's configuration that would allow this.
Suggestions?
