Printing an address on an envelope using Contacts

L

I've changed the address book to contacts (or I think I have) but nothing
shows up when I click on the address book icon. With 2003, I could scroll
thru the whole contacts list for the address I needed. I care nothing about
having email addresses every time I'm trying to print an envelope. I also
need to do mail merge for our holiday card labels....something I'm not
looking forward to! Any advice would be appreciated.

To be able to use the Address Book function, Outlook must be your default
e-mail application and its Contacts list properties must have the option to
set as e-mail address book set (which it is by default).

Mail merge is straightforward though there are some pitfalls - see
http://www.gmayor.com/merge_labels_with_word_2007.htm and
http://www.gmayor.com/mailmerge_from_outlook.htm If you mark your holiday
card recipients with a suitable category - eg Xmas - you could easily filter
the contacts before merging.

Outlook is the default email application (or at least that's what it says at
the top when I go to my inbox........your're dealing with a dummy here, in
case you haven't guessed!). When I go to Contacts list properties, the option
to set as email address book is grayed out. Now what??

From Windows Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs > what does it say
there is your default e-mail application?
The Contacts list, if that is your only contacts list, will have the Outlook
Address Book property checked and greyed out so that would appear to be
correct.
I take it that you are using Outlook 2007 and not Outlook 2003?

It says Microsoft Office Outlook and yes, it's 2007....a curse if I've ever
seen one!! Thanks.

Outlook 2007 is better than any other version of Outlook by a long way.
From Outlook > Tools > Account Settings > Address Books > Change - Remove
Outlook Address Book.
Then Outlook > Tools > Account Settings > Address Books > New - Add >
Additional Address Books > Outlook Address Book.
This will rebuild the links to the contacts list (which won't be affected).

I have managed to wipe out my email completely as well as all my contacts
with mailing addresses. I have set up my email account again but haven't
recovered the items in the inbox or my contact list. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

Nothing I have suggested will affect in any way your contacts list, your
email account or your inbox.. I no longer have any idea what you might have
done to screw this up.

Nobody suggested that anything YOU suggested caused my email and contacts to
be wiped out. Go back and read my post again.....I said I, repeat I, managed
to wipe them out. FYI, I UNSCREWED IT UP. Not only do I have my email and
contacts back, I am able to use my contacts to select an address to print on
envelopes in Word.....THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!

There is nothing in your message to suggest that it was NOT your attempting
to do what Graham suggested that caused your email to be completely wiped
out as well as all your contacts with mailing addresses.

It is perfectly understandable for Graham to have replied in the way in
which he did.
