Printing causes "locked" documents

J

Jess

Symptoms:
6 Word documents open. Printed one document (everything went fine), but
after it printed we could not click on any of the other documents...all you
would get is the Windows *ding* like a dialog box was still open - and there
wasn't. The only document you could click on to modify was the one that had
printed.

Machine info:
Windows 2000 Pro sp3
P4 2.4Ghz machine
1GB RAM
Office 2003 Pro

Nothing in the event viewer. Any ideas?

This is pretty similar to a bug caused by using the Office Plug-in option
enabled in Norton Anti Virus. If you have NAV, disable the plug-in.

If not, try opening several documents and minimising them all except one.
Send the open document to print and minimise it immediately. Now if the
problem recurs, you should see the open dialog pop up.

You may also be able to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del and launch Task Manager: that
should also indicate an open dialog.
