Printing changes document fomat/layout

When I print documents small parts of the layout are changed.....in the middle of a piece of text/ just before a crossref to a Table the text will have skipped to a new line with several blank lines between it and where it was.
I've tried removing any formatting in this area with no effect. Or words formatted to be bold are suddenly normal text.
It only happens a few places in the document and occurs with different printers. I'm writing my thesis at the moment and I'm constantly printing it to read through for mistakes....so this is driving me mad. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!

What you describe really doesn't fit any established pattern associated with
a specific problem & solution. The first suspicion would be that the printer
driver needs to be updated. If you're having the same problem on multiple
printers, though, that isn't likely to be the case... Although it's possible
that the drivers for more than one printer could need updating, especially
if "different printers" means *2* & they're both connected to the same Mac.
Even so, it's improbable that two different printers would misbehave in
exactly the same way.

If it isn't a driver issue the next most likely cause is document
corruption. Once you've ruled out the driver issue you might have a look at
the following page for several de-corruption methods;
