Printing creates huge spool file

When I go to print a notes page it creates a spool file that is 150 megabytes
large and takes 15 minutes to print. What is the fix for this problem?

I too have this problem. The spool file gets so large that on my desktop PC
Windows tries to increase virtual memory which causes the print job to fail.
I have 512Mb of RAM and sufficient virtual memory!

Why is OneNote so hungry when printing, even if I choose Draft Output?

Hi Bruce,
This is Lin from OneNote. Can you send me some more info such as the version
of OneNote, the printer details and attach a couple samples of the files
that you had trouble printing?
Thanks,
Lin

Hi Lin,

Thanks for your reply! I'm running OneNote 2003 SP1 (11.6360.6360)
according to Help -> About. The printer I'm running is a HP PSC 1210
All-In-One and I'm fairly sure I have the latest drivers for it. I've not
had problems with it before.

I've uploaded some files which I've tried printing without success:
http://skinme.net/misc/2005-01-18 Object-Orientation.one
http://skinme.net/misc/2005-01-11 Introduction.one

(Admittedly these are quite large documents: 1.8mb, but that's standard for
the notes I've been taking).

The first one has a background which is a PDF printed into OneNote using the
OneNote virtual printer powertoy.

I just tried to print the smallest of the two (Introduction) but it caused
my system to crawl with a 66mb print job which only print one page of 3 and
showed Page 4/3 as its status in the Windows Control Panel Printers dialog
box!

Thanks for your help,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Thanks a lot for reply. This is a known issue and we are looking into it
now.
Certain .one files may have this problem. To get around this, you can use
the Publish Pages as MHT feature and print from IE.
1. Select all pages that you want to print
2. File -> Publish Pages -> Publish
3. Open the published file in IE and print

Thanks,
Lin

Thanks for your swift reply and work-around. It's not a great workaround but
it works for now. When you do fix this issue, how will you let us know?
Will it be on Office Update? Is there some sort of 'blog or newsletter in
which new updates for OneNote will be announced? Thank you,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

For OneNote updates and downloads, please check the OneNote homepage at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX010858031033.aspx
Scroll down to the Downloads section and all OneNote updates will be listed
there

To check whether the update includes a certain fix, click on the fix detail
link.
For example, click on OneNote Service Pack 1 and click on (842774):
Description of OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1

Hope this helps,
Thanks,
Lin
