Printing emails

B

Bill Robertson

I've got a new user (converted under duress from Eudora) who delights in
finding things to complain about with Entourage. Since she is also a
highly-placed administrator, I have to pay attention and try to resolve her
issues in this regard.

With that in mind, the current problem is that there seems to be no way to
change the font(s) in received emails when she prints them. Most of her mail
is coming from Windows users, and tends to be in html format as well.

Please tell me there is some way to manipulate the emails after she receives
them (ideally without any intervention on her part) so that she can print
them in whatever font she desires.

I've tried setting Preferences to plain text, but this doesn't seem to have
any effect on messages the way it does in Outlook. Setting the Fonts
preferences doesn't do anything either.

TIA,

Bill Robertson

Does she want them all printed in a font & size of her choosing? I'm
thinking that an Automator workflow using actions and scripts might
accomplish what she wants.

Of course, copy/paste works. TextSoap is great for getting rid of HTML code.
I use it all the time when copying text for pasting into GoLive.

She can create a rule to act on all incoming mail and set its action to
"Increase text size".

Also, she can control to some extent the font and size in Entourage menu
--> Preferences... --> General Preferences --> Fonts --> Printed items.
This, however, only affects plain text messages.

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately there is no action to "Decrease text size". Why is that, I
wonder?

This doesn't seem to have any effect at all on the text of the message, but
does seem to affect the text of the message headers. Not particularly
helpful in this case.

You and I know that copy/paste works, but this is an executive user who was
forced to switch from Eudora against her wishes, and is not particularly
happy with the experience so far. Telling her that in order to get what she
had with no effort at all in the past will now require more work, is not
going to go over well at all.

In her words, "...once again, Microsoft, in their infinite arrogance, is
tell us 'never mind what you want, just do what we tell you, how we tell
you, and be happy with it.'"

Do you know of any workflows on the Mactopia site that will do this?

Is there any way to just tell Entourage to take the selected or open mail
message and print it all using just one font, e.g., Courier 10? That's all
I'm looking for.

If I use Automator to make a workflow to select a message to print, there's
no way to exclude all of the internet headers other than From, To and
Subject when I select a message.

I really don't need to print stuff like:
